A.P.C. Fall / Winter 2021 resort collection

« These photos were taken at the Espace Niemeyer in Paris.
This space was designed for the French communist party by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, born in Rio in 1907.

Personally, my first contact with Niemeyer’s work dates back to a Sunday in 1976 when I set foot in the city of Brasilia.

The city – the administrative capital of brazil – was empty (the civil servants who worked there had gone away for a long weekend). It was as empty as it was fascinating. It was like a dream, a promise.

A while later, I discovered 2 place du colonel Fabien – Espace Niemeyer – and his spectacular building for the “palace of culture” (“le volcan”) in le Havre. A local pastry shop there sells a specialty in his honor: the “Oscar”, thin apple sticks covered in dark chocolate.

Yet, during my entire childhood, and even now, I considered the French communist party to be the center of evil and the betrayal of the revolutionary ideal, because I thought that Lenin’s vision had been betrayed by Stalin.

That said, the day of the photo shoot, I was overwhelmed by all of this beauty. Our fashion fit perfectly and naturally into the poetry of the cast-in-place concrete, the unexpected curves and the amazing colours of the furniture.

I am sincerely very proud of this campaign.

It contains the perfect doses of radicality, nuances and fullness.

From a strictly personal point of view, on that day, I felt as if I were in a sort of historical-sensorial odyssey, as if my past experiences were intertwined with our present.»
